WHY MARITA CORNEJO
I am from Arequipa, in southern Peru, the same highlands alpacas call home. I grew up surrounded by this fiber and by women who taught me to value it. I always watched my mother knit, and as a child—wrapped in my grandfather’s poncho—I understood that a garment could hold a story and become a memory.
I worked in large textile factories until, just before the pandemic, I met an artisanal knitter. She showed me pieces that were clean, well-finished, and quietly beautiful. At that moment, I wasn’t looking for knitters, nor did I imagine having a brand. But when COVID began, they lost their livelihood. I sent them yarn, and together we knitted our first sweaters. I didn’t have a brand yet, so I used my own name. That was the beginning.
Soon after, I met Natalia, Claudia, Dino, Nico, Rafael, Cielo… and their families. The dream stopped being mine alone and became ours: to create dignified jobs and build something meaningful. We were small, but our dreams were big. We worked with stock service, reinvented deadstock, blended and experimented until it felt like ours. There was no grand plan—only the certainty of wanting to make knitwear consciously: with respect for the material, the people, and the process.
A space where noble fibers like Baby Alpaca and Cotton are transformed into garments with soul and intention; designed to be worn, cherished, and passed on. We work exclusively with high-quality natural yarns. Each piece reflects the calm hands of those who know how to do things well.

PERU, ESSENCE OF NATURE
Our garments are born in Peru—where cultural richness and a natural textile legacy meet innovation. We are heirs to knowledge and practices passed down through generations, knitted with patience and mastery.
We design with responsibility, embracing a conscious approach to fashion that values origin, respects every process, and honors traditional craftsmanship. We work with noble natural fibers and revive deadstock yarns, giving new life to existing materials and reinforcing the circular economy.
Each piece is more than knitwear: it is a statement of sustainability and beauty with purpose and intention, created to accompany the present and endure over time.

CONSCIOUS
At Marita Cornejo, being conscious means honoring materials, people, and the planet at every step. We work exclusively with natural fibers, craft on artisanal knitting machines, and ensure every thread finds its purpose, nothing is left behind.
Part of this commitment is innovation: by reviving deadstock yarns, we give new life to unused fibers and strengthen the circular economy. Equally essential is working with knitters under fair and dignified conditions, valuing the hands behind each piece as much as the fibers themselves.
For us, consciousness is not a trend but a way of creating knitwear that lasts; respectful, intentional, and beautifully made.
